Orange County Animal Services is a progressive animal-welfare focused organization that enforces the Orange County Code in order to protect both citizens and animals. Established in 1969, we have evolved from a Division primarily concentrated on the control of spread fo the rabies virus to one focused on responsible pet ownership, public and pet safety, abuse prevention, pet adoptions and rescue, and community outreach.Organization like this one SAVES animals. It is really sad to think about how people mistreat animals. I can't figure out why someone would get a pet that they can't take care of. Unfortunately, it happens all the time. I walked through the rows of dogs that looked scared and lonely. Most of them look at you with that "PLEASE take me home" look and it is very hard to find the one that is really right for you. In the end... you usually will.
TIPS:
- Look on the internet first to see what they have available
- Go early because people will like your dog just like you did
- If you want a small dog, phone first in addition to going early
- Just like children the little one go quicker than the older and bigger one (it is an unfortunate truth and not a joke)
Today was the first day that they began a promotion with Sea World called "SeaWorld's Happy Tails". It's a new pet adoption program with Orange County Animal Services and the SPCA of Central Florida and is aimed at promoting shelter pet adoptions. During the six-month pilot program, SeaWorld will provide two free single-day park admissions when citizens adopt a dog or cat from participating shelters. One offer per household. I participated TODAY and got my FREE tickets. I was supposed to be featured on My Fox Orlando but have not been able to find the report.
